This small blast furance was used to melt and recast iron scrap. Scap stockpiled behind the furnace was lifted by the gantry ti be fed into the top of the furnace. The tubes on the lower sides of the furnace injected the heated air and the molten metal exited from the waist-level hole in the front. A wood casting pattern was used to create a mold with special sand. The sand was dried in the Oven and moved about the room by the Gantry. Two man ladles were used to move molten iron from the furnace to the casting boxes into which the molten iron was poured.
